Michael Oliver

Maintenance Technician

Michael has worked in Engineering for over 20 years. He has worked for companies such as Cordell Group, KRG, QA Weldtech and Cowie Technology. Michael has worked as a Mechanist/Fitter working mainly in Oil and Gas.

Michael travelled to New Zealand to do a 3 month placement and worked on a farm to fix on site mobile machines.

Michael currently works in our centre as the Maintenance Technician. He takes care of all general caretaking duties within the centre and ensures the smooth running of out workshop.

Andy Fordham

Centre Manager

As from 13th March 2017, Andy had taken up the post of Centre Manager. Andy manages the team of trainers/assessors to ensure quality training is delivered, he also ensures each learner is given the opportunity to develop and achieve their goals.  Andy is responsible for timely completions and success rates to ensure we are above the national average.

Andy’s pass work history is varied and diverse. It started with him joining the Armed Forces (Army) in an Infantry regiment, he served 14 years from the age of 16 to 30. Whilst serving he discovered a passion for teaching/training and become an Instructor. Andy was selected to be a Depot Section Commander for Phase One Training. Andy was posted to Bassingbourn near Cambridge where  he taught, Skill at Arms, Field Craft and First Aid.

After leaving the Army, Andy still had the desire to teach so he set up his own driving school in Hartlepool. Andy did this for two years before moving into the logistics and transport industry. Whilst in this job role he had the opportunity to complete NVQ qualifications. This opportunity led Andy into the training industry where he became an assessor/tutor. Andy has a desire to progress and develop and over the last 8 years, has worked his way up to IQA (Internal Quality Assessor) then Head of Delivery and now Centre Manager for Pro-active Training. Andy gets a real buzz from helping people from all background and walks of life with their career progression and professional development. Andy gets job satisfaction from seeing these people achieve their goals and aspirations. He is proud to be part of each and every person’s achievements.

Bob Davis

IQA

Bob joined Pro-active Training in October 2015 after 20 years in training new people. Having worked with adults and young people across the North East, Bob wanted to find a new challenge whilst helping the young people of the North East.

Bob has been involved in the development and delivery of construction qualification both at local level as well as national level. Within the last 20 years, Bob has gained L3 Direct Training and Support and V1.

Whilst working as a Lead Internal Verifier, Bobs’ duties involved the management of a team of assessors, covering the quality of delivery to pre 16’s, 6218, Level 1, Apprenticeships at Level 2 in both NVQ’S and Diplomas. To arrange and chair both local and national network meetings. Other duties involve supplying Assessors with up to date information, advice and support. Working with awarding bodies both Cskills and City and Guilds to maintain qualification national standards in order to provide management with all necessary information to ensure resources are in place to deliver the qualifications.

Bob can also work across other routes to deliver, assess and verify A1 and V1 qualifications to new assessors.

Glynis Miller

Functional skills tutor

Glynis has been teaching for 12 years. During this time she has gained  a BA Hons in History, Law and English and also gained a PGCE. Glynis holds Adult Literacy and Numeracy Specialisms and has also gained a L3 IAG qualification.

Glynis joined Pro-active in July 2016 as a Functional Skills Tutor delivering Maths and English up to Level 2. Glynis enjoys working with young people because she finds it rewarding to provide them with a more positive educational experience and is very enthusiastic about supporting young people to progress and achieve qualifications and careers.

Glynis in now also part of the Safeguarding and IAG team.

Govert Oostdijck

NVQ Assessor

Govert has worked since 1986 in construction in Holland doing Carpentry and Bricklaying. He then moved over to England and started working as an NVQ assessor Level 3 Build and Design at the Chamber of Commerce in Middlesbrough.

Govert then moved to Learning World in Preston  as an NVQ assessor in Bricklaying and Construction Operations. In July 2016 Govert joined the Pro-active team as an NVQ Assessor in construction.

Stan Taylor

NVQ Assessor

Stan has worked in the training industry for 22 years. During this time, Stan has work for a number of training providers.

Stan is a joiner by trade, but has worked in all aspects of construction. His role in the business is training to be an IQA and supporting staff in their daily duties.

A highly motivated, target driven professional, with exceptional communication and organising abilities. Julie has significant experience in training, recruitment and employment counselling in a variety of sectors.

Julie is an excellent negotiator with a proven track record in employer engagement and relationship management across professional disciplines and government departments.

Gavin Willey

Student Placement Officer

Gavin has had several years experience within the construction industry, working in loft conversions, electrical PAT testing and maintenance. Gavin has recently been working as a Manager in a Hostel for the homeless dealing with multiple complex needs.

Gavin has also worked as a support worker for the homeless, dealing with drug and alcohol issues. He also helped with Training and Education, to job searching and work related training.

Gavin’s role within our business is to assist in placing our students onto Building sites to gain their NVQ evidence for their Apprenticeship. He also manages the students rotation on site.

Administration Officer

Alex has worked in Business Administration for 11 years. During that time Alex has completed a 3 year Apprenticeship where she completed a Level 2 and Level 3 in Business Administration. Alex also gained extra qualifications with City and Guilds.

Alex joined the Pro-active team in May 2016 after leaving Wilton Engineering. Alex brings a wide range of I.T skills along with customer service skills. She also assists Becky with learner recruitment and social media, Alex also now attends school careers events to help promote the business.

Project Manager

Niel is responsible for Business Development at Pro-active Training, ensuring the business is focused on the future and ensuring we can deliver diverse training across the North East and expand into a variety of sectors.

Niel is very passionate about his role, and enjoys working with the whole team. He is devoted to making a significant difference to the lives of the young people in Teesside. Niel has worked in Training for 14 years in various roles from Assessor to Area Manager and still enjoys the thrill of seeing people gain qualifications, skills and employment more than anything else.

Mick Bramley

Bricklaying Tutor/Assessor

Mick joined the team back in May 2016 and has over 25 years experience within the construction industry working as a Bricklayer to site management, working on small extensions to large commercial care homes.

Mick has a vast experience in delivering a mixture of different courses including Bricklaying to highway maintenance and plant. Mick is passionate about sharing his experiences with students who have a hunger to learn an exciting new trade.

Jessica Stainsby

Administration Assistant

Jessica has had 3 years experience in an administration environment. Since Jessica left school, she has gained a Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ in Business Admin and Level 3 in Customer Services. This knowledge has given Jessica the tools to carry out her role as Administrator.

Jessica joined the company in July 2015 as an apprentice and has progressed into a full time role since her apprenticeship has ended,

Louise Holroyd

Compliance Officer

Previously from a Retail background, Louise worked for a high street company for 13 years as a store Induction Trainer/Store Manager. After being made redundant, Louise realised she preferred the training side of the role.

Louise has worked in the training industry for 3 years now. In this time she has trained unemployed people to become work ready, including teaching Maths, English and IT.

Louise started working with us in 2015 as out Functional Skills Tutor and has since progressed onto becoming our Compliance Officer, ensuring all work for the students is of the highest standard.

Louise is a key part of the team and has excellent communication with staff and students.

Brian Hanson

Director of Pro-active Safety

Brian became a Director of Pro-active Training Ltd in December 2014. He has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, starting his career as a Bricklayer. His main responsibilities are to ensure Pro-active Training complies with all current Health and Safety legislation and delivering in-house and commercial Health and Safety training. He is NEBOSH qualified and is an active member of the Teesside branch of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

Joe Addison

Health and Safety Officer

Arriving at the company in October 2015 Joe brings with him qualifications in construction, engineering, environmental studies and health and safety. He also has 20 years’ experience in the construction industry ranging from plumbing and pipe fitting (at domestic, commercial and industrial installations), to partnering a Groundworks company. This gives him a good knowledge base to carry out his role as Health and Safety officer for Pro-active Safety and Brickwork Services Ltd,  but he is also jointly responsible for the apprentice placement for Pro-active Training.

Stephen Willis

The driving force behind Pro-Active Safety Ltd and Pro-Active Training.

Steve has been involved in construction for nearly forty years with a wealth of experience in construction, health and safety training and apprentice training which makes him the ideal person for leadership.

He works very closely with his handpicked directors to give the best quality, service and training possible to all his clients and apprentices.

General Manager

Jo joined Pro-active Training from it’s development stages in December 2014.  Jo, now General Manager of Pro-active Training is excited in developing the Training Centre further and also future projects.  Jo is also linked with Brickwork Services Ltd and with over 19 years’ experience of Office Management, Human Resources and also Event Management Jo brings a wide and diverse range of valuable knowledge and experience. Jo is a key member of the Management Team working efficiently and effectively to ensure the smooth day to day running of Pro-active Training.

 

Becky Willis 1

Becky Willis

Marketing and Recruitment Officer

Becky has worked for Pro-Active Training since July 2015. During this time Becky has gained her IOSH working safely qualification and NVQ level 3 in Education and Training. Becky’s experience has built tremendously within training and Is now the Media and Marketing Officer and Recruitment Officer, she is also part of the Safeguarding and IAG team.

Becky’s main role is Marketing and Recruitment, contacting prospective learners to come on board to our training programmes. Becky also attends local job and career fayres, helping spread the word and promote the business. She also manages all social media for the company.

Becky is currently studying for a (BA Hons) Business Management specialising in Marketing. She feels this will help build her knowledge and skills as the business develops.

Before Becky came on board with Pro-active Training, she had over 10 years experience in retail and 6 years in Management. This involved training staff in Health and Safety, Food Safety, and Customer Services. Becky has always been heavily involved with recruitment in previous roles and feels this is a huge asset to the company.
